CBD is an acronym that stands for Cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is one of the many compounds found in the Hemp Plant. Sadly, the Hemp plant has been confused with the Marijuana plant and only recently has been removed from the Schedule 1 list with the signing of the Farm Bill 2018. The Hemp plant is truly a Miracle Plant. If you are an avid reader and want to learn more about this amazing plant, I would suggest a book titled The Hemp Miracle, by Carol Merlo. I met her recently and she is as wonderful as the book she wrote. Also, please check back here often as I plan to share what I have learned on my journey with CBD.
The reason for the confusion with the marijuana plant is they look somewhat similar, smell very similar and both have wonderful medicinal benefits. However the very distinct difference is the level of Tetrahydrocannibidol or THC , another compound found in both Hemp and Marijuana. This is the compound that causes the intoxicating feeling that is produced when partaking of marijuana. Hemp has .3% or less of THC while Marijuana has a much higher percentage. Both plants also contain CBD, it is simply the ratio of CBD to THC that is the major difference. Hemp derived CBD does not produce an intoxicating feeling in anyway. It does however produce many benefits for our bodies, that have become unbalanced due to disease, food, stress, anxiety, addiction, environment, genetics, and trauma. I’d say the majority of us have an imbalance! When our bodies are imbalanced due to these reasons, CBD brings us back into balance due to a system we have in our bodies called the Endocannabinoid System which is a system responsible for keeping a stable internal environment. We will go into more detail on this system soon! (Be sure to visit often!)
Personally I began my journey with CBD when my daughter decided she was going to open a CBD American Shaman store, she was finding some relief with her anxiety and wanted to share it with others. I had already been on a journey of healing my body by seeing a functional medicine doctor and was at a place of feeling much better, however, I was dealing with some arthritis pain still and thought I would give it a try. Within a few weeks the stiffness in my feet that I often awoke to was gone, and hasn’t returned happily. Moving into a month after taking CBD daily I noticed my mood had begun improving. I am about to be 52 and my hormones have been a bit crazy, in addition to just not having the motivation to want to do much. I had the energy, but the desire was still not there. My younger four children even noticed that I was “more humourous”. Moving on into the third month, my desire to drink wine was not a daily occurence, the fourth month I decided to start weaning off my beta blocker that I had been taking for high blood pressure the past 15 plus years sadly never getting it under control, I am now happy to say I am med free now and my blood pressure is better than it has ever been! My family definitely suffers from anxiety, depression, addiction, and I’ll even add trauma. CBD has definitely helped our family in many ways. Recently my husband, whom has not been partaking of CBD, had his back “go out” on him. This happened to him over a year ago as well and we had to call EMS to help get him off the floor! He has degenerative discs, the first time it went out he was home for two weeks taking steroids, muscle relaxers, pain killers, all the normal prescriptions given. This time when it went out I began giving him CBD and after only five days of daily CBD he was able to go back to work! No steroids, or pain killers, or muscle relaxers. He is also noticing that he has better mental clarity. I could go on with personal testimonials that I have either witnessed or heard. This is such a wonderful product, its my goal to educate as many as we can to get help to those that need it for their well being, to enable them to become the best version of themselves!
